A live Cura habit contract: 10,000 steps a day, signed by you and two friends, 9 days left, 73% kept

What goes in a habit contract

Five parts. Cura walks you through each one; this is a real contract from the app.

The subject of a Cura contract: Run every morning, Sep 8 to Oct 8
1

The habit

One clear thing. “Run every morning”, not “get fit”.

The commitment: run every morning, every day
2

How often

Every day is the classic. Pick what you can really keep.

The term: 30 days from the start date
3

How long

A start and an end. 30 days is a good first one.

The stakes: to win, new running shoes; to lose, I plan the next date night
4

The stakes

What you win if you keep it, and what you owe if you don’t.

The signatures: you, your accountability partner, and Cura as witness
5

The signatures

You sign. A friend can sign as your partner. Cura signs as witness.

Questions

What is a habit contract?

A written promise to build a habit, with a stake if you break it and a signature from someone who’ll hold you to it. Atomic Habits made the idea popular; Cura turns it into an app.

Is there a habit contract template?

Cura is one. It asks for the habit, how often, how long, the stakes and who signs, all on your phone. Nothing to print.

Do I need someone to sign it?

No, solo works. A friend signing makes it much harder to quietly quit.

What if I miss a day?

One missed day is fine. Two in a row breaks the contract.

Is it free?

The beta is free. More in the FAQ.
